Community Guidelines

SageChimp is a community built on a shared love of books. These guidelines ensure everyone can participate in a respectful, inclusive, and constructive environment.

Be Respectful

  • Treat all community members with courtesy, regardless of their reading preferences, background, or opinions
  • Disagree with ideas, not people — criticize books, not the readers who enjoy them
  • Do not engage in personal attacks, harassment, bullying, or intimidation
  • Respect authors — constructive criticism is welcome, but cruelty is not

Write Honest Reviews

  • Reviews should reflect your genuine opinion of a book
  • Do not post fake reviews, paid-for reviews without disclosure, or reviews of books you haven't read
  • Use spoiler tags when discussing plot reveals — not everyone reads at the same pace
  • ARC reviewers should provide honest, unbiased reviews regardless of receiving a free copy

Keep Forums Constructive

  • Stay on topic within forum categories and threads
  • Do not post spam, advertisements, or self-promotion outside of designated areas
  • Search before posting — duplicate threads fragment discussions
  • Use descriptive titles so others can find relevant conversations

Protect Privacy

  • Do not share personal information about other users without their consent
  • Do not dox, stalk, or attempt to identify anonymous users
  • Report content that exposes private information using the Report button

Respect Intellectual Property

  • Only share content you have the right to share
  • Do not pirate, redistribute, or share download links for copyrighted books
  • Fan fiction authors are responsible for ensuring their work falls within fair use
  • Credit sources when quoting or referencing other works

No Hate Speech or Discrimination

  • Content that promotes hatred, violence, or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic is strictly prohibited
  • This includes slurs, derogatory language, and coded hate speech

Content Ratings

  • Use appropriate content warnings for material containing violence, sexual content, or other sensitive themes
  • Blog posts and fan fiction with mature content must be clearly labeled

No Manipulation

  • Do not use multiple accounts to manipulate votes, reviews, or ratings
  • Do not organize brigading or coordinated attacks against users, authors, or books
  • Do not use bots or automated tools to interact with the Platform

Reporting & Enforcement

Every review, blog post, forum thread, forum reply, and comment has a Report button. If you see content that violates these guidelines, please report it. Our moderation team reviews all reports and takes appropriate action, which may include:

  • Content removal
  • Temporary account suspension
  • Permanent account termination for severe or repeated violations

Appeals

If you believe a moderation action was taken in error, you may contact us at support@sagechimp.com with your username and a description of the situation. We will review your appeal within 5 business days.
